message from the president, ttao  - TrinbaGo Day 2017

Trinidad and Tobago’s 55th year of Independence was celebrated in fine style on Sunday August 20th 2017 at the Horticultural Building, Lansdowne Park, Ottawa. Invited by His Worship, Jim Watson the Mayor for City of Ottawa to participate in Ottawa Welcomes the World in commemoration of Canada’s 150th year of confederation, the Trinidad and Tobago High Commission to Ottawa, led by His Excellency, Garth Chatoor in conjunction with The Trinidad and Tobago Association of Ottawa, led by its President, Adrian Benjamin, planned and executed TrinbaGo Day 2017 with pomp and flare.
TrinbaGo 2017 superseded expectations and realized the highest number of visitors to date for Ottawa Welcomes the World, with an excess of 9,450 persons visiting and patronizing the various booths and vendors who offered many of Trinidad and Tobago’s food and drink for sale. The high caliber of entertainment was continuous throughout the day and included performances by the Signal Hill Alumni Choir, Nepean Panharmonic Steel Band, Los Pajaros, Crab and Callaloo, Trinidadian entertainer Nicholas Gordon, Comedian-Jean Paul, and more.
Trinbagonian fashion was also on display by the University of Trinidad and Tobago in the form of a fashion show led by Miss Universe 1998, Ms. Wendy Fiitzwilliam.
The Horticultural Society of Trinidad and Tobago led by its President, Joan Hampton and First Vice President, Chanardai Ramkissoon showcased the splendour of the flora to be found in the twin islands. The spectacular arrangements of fresh flowers from Trinidad and Tobago wowed many in attendance.
Event sponsors, the United Way and Caribbean Airlines, recognized the contributions of Mr. Ashton Hughes, Band Leader of the Nepean Panharmonic Steel Band and Mr. David Bostic popularly known as DJ David Supersound, for their contribution to the Caribbean community in Ottawa. Carib Brewery and the Tobago House of Assembly were major sponsors who also hosted booths at the event. Toronto based Papa Joe’s Bakery and K. M. Imports delighted patrons with their offerings.
The Trinidad and Tobago Association of Ottawa wishes to thank the public and everyone who made TrinbaGo Day 2017 the success that it was, as well as everyone who attended its Independence Day Dinner and Dance on September 2nd 2017 at Tudor Hall.   Enjoy these photographs.
